Our success at Extra Space Storage and our family of brands, including Life Storage, is attributed to the exceptional individuals who work here. This year marks the 25-year work anniversary of George Klages, a Store Manager in Pensacola, FL. George joined Extra Space as a Life Storage employee after our merger last summer and quickly adjusted to his role as a Store Manager. Prior to this, George had a dedicated career in the army. Driven by a desire to stay busy and continue contributing to a team after the army, he joined Uncle Bob’s Storage, which was later rebranded as Life Storage. Over the years, George has held various roles, including Assistant Store Manager, Store Manager, Training Manager, Lead Manager, and District Team Lead.

One of his favorite aspects of the job has been the opportunity to work with a wide variety of people. Whether it’s customers or colleagues, George has valued the interactions and relationships formed over the years. He reports that his fondest career memories are filled with the friendships he has developed with coworkers.

“George is an extremely valued team member who has had a positive impact over many years on our customers, his peers, and the business,” said Extra Space District Manager John Spillar. “George consistently demonstrates the passion and teamwork embodied in our company values and is always willing to go above and beyond to help anyone on the team. From the first time I met George, I knew that he was a fantastic teammate, and he continues to prove that daily. Congratulations on reaching an incredible milestone in a tremendous career!”

Over the years, George has managed four different properties, and he takes pride in how he cleaned them up and made them more attractive and welcoming for customers. His hard work and dedication have left a lasting impact on each property, enhancing the customer experience and contributing to the company’s success.

With 25 years under his belt, George advises team members to “be ready for change—I have lived through three company name changes. When I started with Uncle Bob’s, the processes were not what they are today. Just be ready for change and embrace it.” We appreciate George’s ability to stay flexible and positive through these transitions. It is a testament to his adaptability and hard-working attitude.
